New Invasive Species Threatens Curaçao

Caribbean Footprint Magazine presents the latest information on species invading Curaçao and the other islands of the Dutch Caribbean.

Agave Weevil

The Agave Weevil on Curaçao is the most recent pest to reek havoc not only on our islands’ biodiversity, but also on food supply. It attacks and eats both native and imported species of Agave.

While many species have already been introduced to our islands and need to be controlled, the best measure to prevent negative ecological and economic impacts of invasive species is to prevent their introduction in the first place.
